An Ancient Science that the Modern World Needs

Ayurveda, Sanskrit for "Life Science" is an ancient science of healing that comes to us from India and is based on balancing the forces of nature affecting human beings.

With a practice based in Los Angeles, Daren Black and his services that he calls Nature Power and Practical Ayurveda offer an accessible approach to healing that seems light years beyond the current U.S. culture’s primitive system of health care.

A Proven Health Care System

With herbal remedies, essential oils, therapeutic yoga services, Ayurvedic massage treatments, workshops on such applications as Ayurvedic weight management, etc., Practical Ayurveda and Nature Power teach people how this ancient art of healing draws from spiritual as well as physical energies, and how as a resource, the knowledge presented at the Practical Ayurveda website is much more than a simple isolated remedy.

As Black’s website states, “the principles of Ayurveda apply to everyone on all parts of the globe. Long ago, the wisdom of growing the healthiest, most potent herbs would incorporate strategies for maximizing the healing energies of plants.” This respect for nature has grown through the ages and still applies to those of us who consider ourselves ‘modern.’

Although in this age we have developed advanced strategies for communicating, travel, information management, military pursuits, etc., our ancient heritage of relating to healing plants has largely been forgotten and overlooked. By renewing this knowledge in the minds of modern people, we may find solutions to our systematic health care problems and our cultural de-emphasis on prevention of disease (rather than detection or cures that help after-the-fact).

The following six points from Black's website reveal how applicable the principles of Ayurveda are, despite inaccurate perceptions that contemporary Westerners often have about the ancient science:

"The Eternal and Universal Nature of Ayurveda

  1. Ayurveda does not belong to any particular civilization or country, it aims to provide for the well being of everybody.
  2. Ayurveda has no beginning and no end.
  3. Ayurveda does not cater to any particular religion.
  4. Ayurveda does not belong to any particular period of history.
  5. It deals with things that are inherent in nature.
  6. Drugs and dietary habits may vary, but their principles remain the same."

Ayurveda Extends a Personal Yoga Practice

For those who have begun practicing yoga already, Ayurveda extends their natural healing capacity by allowing them to understand the process of balancing the natural environment with their own individual physical and emotional tendencies. Since yoga has caught on in the West, it only seems a matter of time before Ayurveda’s popularity will become worldwide also.

The products offered by Nature Power support such a process and are further energized by the chanting of Sanskrit mantras over them during production. All of their supplements are vegetarian and come from various sources in different parts of the world.

As Black and many other holistic practitioners know, “health is not just absence of disease; it includes strength in the body, pleasant emotions, comfortable digestion, efficient elimination and living a productive life.” Through Ayurveda, made universally comprehensible, accessible and useful to citizens of the modern age, the valuable experience of true health becomes more and more possible for everyone.
