The heart of the matter in your body is your heart. You need to keep priming your heart by deliberately pumping it even if you are in the prime of health.
Whenever your car has a small scratch or dent you immediately take it to a garage to repaint it, so as to make it look unblemished. But did you immediately take yourself to a doctor last time around when you felt that slight heaviness on the left side of your chest? Act Before Your CAT Scan, Electrocardiogram or Stress Test Ask You toObviously your life is more important than your car. Then why do you give a lesser priority to your heart? Quite possibly because while the condition of your car can be seen, that of your heart cannot. Until, of course, you get your CAT scan or electrocardiogram and stress test done. The fact is that you normally have a higher concern for your car house and any other gadget, rather than your own health. You obviously remember that when a friend invited you to the latest car or gadget exhibition, you jumped at the opportunity. But when you were told of a free health check up for yourself, you dilly dallied thinking that nobody could be as fit as you are. Intervene Before Undergoing Angioplasty, Bypass Surgery or Similar Medical InterventionOnly when the biological clock reminded you of that pain in the chest did you rush to the doctor and find out that you needed to undergo angioplasty, or bypass surgery, or some such similar medical intervention. While you do not wait for such aggravation with your car and call a mechanic only if it refuses to start, you do allow your body condition to become aggravated until urgent medical intervention becomes necessary. The irony is that for your car, your house or any gadget, you do your best to keep them in top performing condition. At the faintest jarring sound the car goes to the garage, at the first signs of the paint peeling off you house gets a fresh coat of paint. Even if there is nothing wrong with your car, you do take it to the garage, once in a while, for tuning it up. Then why do you have to wait for your body to give you the first signs of a disorder? No, we do not suggest that you pop pills even when you are feeling fit, but all that we ask you is to treat your body on the same scale of preference as you do with your car and house, if not higher. Deliberate Pumping of Fresh Air into Your HeartHow many times have you ever deliberately pumped fresh air into your heart to keep it in top gear? Yes, sometimes you do take in fresh air when you sprint across and are breathless, (or when you feel stuffy and breathless in a crowded smoky room during a boisterous party). But then you do so because your body is panting and puffing “like a grampus” and your lungs cry out for fresh air. You need fresh air all the time to survive and rejuvenate. Of the three elements necessary for you to survive – air, water and food, the first is the last you think of, as nature has created us in a way that breathing happens instinctively and virtually effortlessly, as long as your heart, the pump, is in prime condition. Kapalbhati Technique to Pump Prime Your HeartThe actual terminology for this technique that is similar to "pump priming" is Kapalbhati. You can pump your heart by deliberately taking deep breaths and expelling air in a fast rhythmic series of inhalation and exhalation. This technique is called "Kapalbhati" in Sanskrit. This technique is similar to what you would do to activate a traditional water pump. You fill the well with water and activate the pump to draw the excess water and forcefully drive out air bubbles and other particles that block the free flow of water. Similarly, with Kapalbhati you take a deep breath through your nose to fill your lungs with excess air and then forcefully expel that air by drawing in your abdomen with a jerk so as to clear your lungs and windpipe to make them function more effectively and retard the formation of blockages. Reduce Heart AttacksThe catch here is that you have to start this cleansing process before things get bad. If you already are a heart patient or have suffered from a heart attack, asthma, a hernia, or high blood pressure, then you cannot practice this technique. The time to start it is when you are feeling fine and have none of the above aliments, to reduce the possibility of getting them. Ideally do this on an empty stomach before having breakfast. The best posture while doing this exercise is to fold your legs underneath yourself, but you also can exercise sitting on a chair or sofa.
