Many would be interested to know that laxatives are not a recommended means toward achieving regularity.

For many, regular bowel movements are as common a cycle as those of the Sun and Moon. For others, staying regular can be the forethought that makes or breaks their day. Some have resorted to a regular regimen of laxatives while others find that grande cappuccinos with an added shot of espresso provides the necessary lube to keep their intestinal walls slick, but these methods are not proper courses for intestinal health as they can have a dependency effect.

For that reason alone, the best course to beat constipation, as noted on the expert site, BeatConstipation.com, are noted as follows:

  • Increase Water Intake
  • Eat Fiber Rich Foods
  • Meditate

Increasing Water Intake to Soften Stool

Given that the normal North American diet consists of many highly processed, unnatural foods, it is very important to increase water intake. Some experts recommend starting the day with two glasses of water prior to a morning cup of coffee. This will regulate, and stimulate, bowel movement as well as ensure that all things move accordingly.

All Things Come to Pass With Fiber Rich Food

Fiber rich foods include fruits such as apples and oranges, raw vegetables like broccoli and carrots, and starches that include lima beans and 7 grain bread.

Implementing these foods into meals and snacks are not only simple, but affordable. For those who are coffee junkies, it is true that a fruit salad does not go well with a cafe latte, but an egg and cheese sandwich with whole grain bread does. Additionally, for those who dine at fast food restaurants for lunch, high fat, low nutrient french fries are no longer the lone alternative to a hamburger or chicken sandwich. Wendy's has added mandarin oranges and salads to their list of substitute items at no extra cost.

Outside of restaurants grocery stores are offering more convenient methods of encouraging fruits and vegetables into our diets with single serve packages of carrots with ranch dressing and apples with caramel dip. Or one could simply enjoy a nice assortment of nuts as nutmeat is not only a good source of fiber, but also an excellent source of protein.

Bowel Regulation Through Mediation

The article from the site noted above states that many health problems are stress related. Constant layoffs and competition lead many to seek different methods to de-stress. Meditation is a great means to relieve stress, anger, fear, anxiety, and even worry.

Of course, the solitary form of crossed legged relaxation is not the only form of meditation. Finding places to laugh, scream, run, play or even fish are always acceptable, and encouraged.

Answers From Public Forums About Constipation Relief

For the sake of this article a poll was taken on the Q&A forum, Yahoo! Answers. An overwhelming 66% of those polled suggested natural methods such as eating raw vegetables, prunes, exercise, staying hydrated, and one even suggested "reading a book."

Other answers varied among laxatives, supplements, and good old fashioned coffee. One commenter who preferred to remain anonymous left this wisdom to his suggestion of using alcohol as a means of constipation prevention: "Go out and get blasted. I've never had a good (or bad) night of drinking that left me with any problems dealing with my [bowel relief]."

It seems that amateurs and experts alike can mostly agree that a strong, healthy bowel movement is on the opposite end of nutritious, fiber rich food, a walk in the park, or the Sunday comics. When all three are added together it can make for a very explosive combination.
